About Us

St George Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, Christchurch, was founded on Saturday, 26 September 2015, under the spiritual guidance of His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church; His Beatitude Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I Bava, Catholicos of the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church; and His Grace Mor Athanasios Geevarghese, our Diocesan Bishop, with the pastoral leadership of Rev. Fr. Robin Daniel. In the same year, the church was officially registered as a charitable organisation.

What began with just five families gathering for monthly evening Holy Qurbana has grown into a vibrant parish dedicated to preserving our Syriac Orthodox faith, celebrating worship in our own language, and passing our rich spiritual heritage and sacred traditions on to future generations.

Today, our parish comprises 40 active families, with Holy Qurbana celebrated on the first three Saturday mornings of each month. Our active Sunday School, Vanitha Samajam, and Youth Association play an important role in nurturing faith, fostering fellowship, and serving the wider community through charitable initiatives, blood donation programmes, and community service.

United in faith, strengthened by fellowship, and guided by compassion, we remain committed to keeping our spiritual traditions alive while building a welcoming and caring church community for generations to come.
